Piran: sights and tips for one day
The Adriatic’s most beautiful sunset — in a town without cars
Piran is the only town on the Slovenian coast whose Venetian buildings survive intact. Cars are not allowed into the old town: you park at Fornače and take the free shuttle or walk fifteen minutes along the sea. That is why there is no traffic noise here.

The town is quiet and local, cafés on the square are open. Too early to swim.
Peak season: busy in the afternoon, calm in the evening. Sea +25.
The best time: warm sea, sunsets, empty restaurants.
Bora and empty lanes. Atmospheric, but much is closed.
May, June and September. In July and August the town is packed in the afternoon and empties towards evening. Restaurants on the promenade cost more; two streets back the menu is the same and the price lower.

Can you drive into Piran?
No, the historic centre is closed to traffic. Park at Fornače at the entrance and take the free shuttle.
How much time do you need?
Three to four hours for the centre and Tartini Square; a full day with the walls, lunch and a swim.
Where is the best sunset?
At the lighthouse point. Come forty minutes early — the spots on the rocks fill up fast.
